If your baby is already one month old, you may be wondering whether it’s too late to book a newborn photography session. The first few weeks can pass quickly, especially while you’re adjusting to life with a new baby.
The good news is that you may still be able to have classic newborn portraits even when your baby is a month old. The best approach depends on your baby’s age, development and comfort during the session.
Yes, in many cases, it’s still possible to photograph a one-month-old baby in classic newborn setups.
Classic newborn photography includes posed portraits using wraps, props, simple backdrops and carefully arranged positions. Although these sessions are often done during the first two weeks, some babies can still be photographed in this style at around one month old.
At this age, babies are usually more alert and may move and stretch more than they did during their first days. Some poses may take more time or may not be suitable, so the session needs to be adapted to your baby.
Every baby is different, and I can’t guarantee that every classic pose or setup will be possible. The priority is always your baby’s comfort and safety.
If your baby arrived earlier than expected, you may still have an opportunity to book a classic newborn session.
In some cases, classic newborn photography may be possible when a baby is up to around six weeks old, particularly when the baby was born prematurely. However, this depends on the individual baby, their development and how comfortable they are with different positions.
There is no single age that works for every baby. If your little one arrived early, feel free to get in touch and tell me your baby’s birth date and, if relevant, due date. We can discuss the options and what may be suitable for your baby.
As babies grow, they become more alert, active and expressive. Traditional newborn poses may become more difficult, and not every baby will be comfortable in classic setups.
For older babies, a lifestyle session can be a wonderful alternative.
Lifestyle newborn photography focuses on natural moments with parents: holding your baby, cuddling, feeding, kissing and simply spending time together at home. Rather than relying on carefully arranged poses, the session captures your connection with your baby in a natural, relaxed way.
These photographs can be meaningful at different ages, and there is no need to feel that you have missed your chance to capture this stage.
Not necessarily. While the first two weeks are often preferred for classic newborn posing, a later session may still be possible.
The right approach depends on your baby’s age, temperament and comfort. Some babies may be suitable for classic portraits at around one month old, while others may be better suited to lifestyle photography.
